Costs

The base stats of the upgraded item are calculated based upon its new ilvl as well as other properties. This calculation determines the new Armor Class bonuses, damage dice, and other important stats. In some instances upgrades can provide additional perks. These perks are offered in a list.
In rare instances, the upgrade will replace only the highest-costing benefits. A Blacksmith Blessing, or an upgraded version can be used to increase the odds of a successful upgrade. This item is useful in the event that you have an item of equipment that has reached the maximum level for its tier, or is close to it. It allows you to upgrade that piece of equipment to the next level without worrying about it breaking.
If an upgrade fails the system will be returned to its original condition. This is typically a break, but could also be a downgrade. Save an upgrade until you reach the maximum level of an item.
Kafra has a number of products that can be used in order to increase the likelihood of an upgrade succeeding. You can increase your chances of success by upgrading your equipment repeatedly using HD Oridecon and HD Elunium.
